Frequently Asked Questions

shapeFrequently Asked Questions

Here are a few of our most frequently asked questions regarding our work, if you are looking for troubleshooting information, please visit the Troubleshooting page.

When is payment due?

For standard electrical work payment is due in full upon completion allowing you to see what you're paying for. On large projects such as rewires/refurbishments, staged payment will be applied to cover time and materials either as each stage completes or at the end of each calendar month

How can i pay?

Bank transfer (BACS) is the prefered method of payment, however we also accept cash, cheques and debit/credit cards.

How much will it cost?

Well, that varies on what work you require, There is no charge to come out to discuss work or to look at a job, however any site visit which involves applying specialist knowledge to undertake either fault finding, repair or installation tasks will be charged for.

Our pricing is modular and based on the hourly rates published on this website here. For example, a site visit of less than an hour will still incur the full hour charge.

Call-outs and emergencies are charged at the "call-out" rate advertised, this is because it is either outside of our normal working day or we have had to dissapoint or delay another customer to attend your emergency as a priority service.

Why is the first hours of your call out rate more expensive?

The initial hour is priced higher than subsequent hours to cover the overheads outside of the time on site. Before we arrive, time will already have been expended on any preliminary visits and discussions, estimate preparation, travel time, fuel costs and identifying & procuring the required materials. It also covers the time spent after completion on site dealing with the administrative tasks such as invoicing and certification(s).

I called you out to find a fault but you haven't fixed anything. Why have you charged me?

If you require me to use my tools and expertise to investigate a perceived fault, then you would be charged for my time regardless of whether any fault is actually found or whether you want me to further quote for any rectification work. As a business, I cannot volunteer my time for free troubleshooting unless it has been pre-agreed that I will be paid to fix the issue. Faultfinding doesn't come under any free quotation offer, you're paying to get an answer even if that answer is that all inspections and tests pass and no fault is apparent at that time or that further, more invasive work is required to rectify the fault.

why is you hourly rate that much?

We opperate a company, the price that we charge per hour is reflective of the cost to the business, this includes may pesky overheads, such as Tax, National insurance, pensions, Fuel, Vehicle maintenace, Tool maintenace, PPE, Training, Public and professional insurances etc, the hourly rate is no where near the actual take home pay of our electricians/engineers.

For your hard earned money you will be getting a professional electrician, who will strive for high quality workmanship and customer satisfaction and using trusted, good quality materials and making every effort to stick to the estimate we have provided to you. We do the job once, and do it right.

Do you have a day rate price?

Yes, however this is only generally applied to jobs of a long duration or at minimum, several days. We prefer to charge for actual time on site, this is why we opperate an hourly rate in general, additionally if we do agree a day rate this will generaally be based on a 7.5 hour day, this may nt solely at your premises, this may also include visits out to get materials, planning time if a job is fairly complex etc.

Do you price 'by the job'?

Yes, following a site visit for an estimate, we may provide a 'price' for the job, there will be no materials or hours breakdown on the estimate of this kind of work, it is a 'price' for the work to be completed inclusive of materials and labour. We will also provide an estimte of duration of the works with this type of estimate.

Discount for cash?

Nope! saldy cash actually costs us more, we prefer BACS or debit/credit card transfers, if you pay us in cash, we have to the drive to the bank to deposit it. We are unable to offer a 'better' discount for cash, we will have already priced the job as competativley as possible.

Can you start on Monday? we need this doing this week!

On a normal week we will generally have the full week booked around 2-3 weeks in advance, however we also have the odd day or two that will become available due to unforseen circumstaces such as materials not arriving on time, or a delay with other trades. When you contact us, dependant on the type and duration of the job we will aim to get you booked in literally as soon as possible based around our current planned in jobs.

Can i buy the materials to make it cheaper?

With the various trade wholsalers that we use, we get great pricing on quality trusted brands and provide a minimum of a 24 month warranty for these materials, however, if you wish to supply the materials yourself, you are welcome to, please be aware that we are not liable for any delays or further expense incurred if the materials you purchase are not compliant with current regulations or British/European standards. Any materials we have not supplied will not be covered under our warranty/guarentee.

Are you insured?

Absolutely YES! we have current insurance policies for Public liability and professional indemnity insurance.
